Egyptian and Sumerian Writing

The boys have really been into this whole Egypt study. I just wish I could take them there. But I don't think the trip money Matthew won from work will cover that for this next vacation. *sigh* I guess the other place we are thinking of will have to do. But I can't write about it in the school blog, the boys are watching. It is a surprise!

We have been learning about the writings of Sumer, the city between two rivers in Mesopotamia. They would record their writing on clay tablets and these lasted for a long time. We also decided to make our own clay tablets with cuneiform writing.

After this we learned about the Egyptians and how for a while they used stones to record information, but they were heavy and took up lots of room. And why should they when they learned to make a paper called papyrus. Only thing is this didn't leave us as much information to learn from as did the earlier stone writings.

We had lots of fun making our own examples and the boys learned SO MUCH!
