Lesson 60

It was a new day of school today. We had two parties to go to today...but I just needed to stay home. And boy did it feel good. :) There wasn't anything to do really so we decided to do a day of school.

Highlights of the day:

Remy is getting VERY close to finishing 3 year old preschool. I just pray that we will have the money to purchase either his k4 or k5 curriculum when the time comes. I still haven't decided which grade to do with him. He is showing me lots of growth in his learning and in what he wants to accomplish in his learning. I have a few weeks left to decide. :) Pray for me!

Today he made this wriggly fish.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
When you hold it's tail and rub the paper together it looks like it is swimming! Very cute if I do say so myself!

Then he learned about how the shepard's took care of the sheep. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
He loves to glue cotton balls on something. LOL! He cracks me up. And his coloring has greatly improved since last January. I can't believe he has been in "school" for a year now! I am not ready to let him continue into the next grade. :(

He learned about octogon's. He counted the sides like a pro. There are 8 sides if you did not know. We reviewed the letter K and L today. I know he will be reading this new year of school. It is strange to think of. I never knew to give Eli the tools he needed to learn to read. I didn't come from a family that loved to learn or who strived to learn. I just thought oh, we will do it when we HAVE to. But after teaching Eli, Remy wanted to learn. And so when he asked for those schoolbooks for his bday last year we happily gave them to him. And he is learning by leaps and bounds! It is surprising to me!

Remy and I also played letter Bingo. It is a sesame street game and he covers the letters with little cookies when they are called out. He loves it! And begs for more...just one more time. :)

Eli practiced his music today (flutophone) and my he sounded good! :)

During math today we learned about Cananda...just a little. But he loved that.

He drew this in art today.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This kid loves to draw. And boy does he do a good job!

He finished up the story of Pandora's Box and started on another one. He also read how the pilgrims got ready for the voyage. He was amazed. :)

The new spelling list was introduced. He knows them all but 2 words so we will just review them a few times before the test. Matthew has taken to going over his spelling words with him in the evening. It is really good for Eli and Mattmos. And it gives me a break!

We were going to make birthday cakes for the dogs. But...I am an egg short. So, tomorrow or Monday that will happen. I will be sure to share pictures.

We hope everyone has a blessed Sunday! :)

Lesson 59

Highlights of the day:

First off I would like to update everyone on our carnation project. :)

This was by late that first night. Matthew and I went to sleep VERY late.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This is the next morning.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We switched the flowers into the other color and Eli guessed that they would turn purple since we were using blue and red dye. *sigh* He is so his father's child! I would have never known that at age 8!!!! Well, parts of each flower did turn purple where the dyes met. LOL!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Another observation that Eli made was that one of the flowers drank almost all of the water and was more colorful. While the other one was more white and had more water in the glass. Great observation Eli! :) I love you sweet boy!

Eli and Remy love for me to fix them lunch on a tray. They like to eat this lunch on their school desks. Just like on Arthur. LOL!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Remy made this little lizard...when you push his back down and release he crawls. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Elijah made this Eskimo.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Remy painted spots onto the fire dog.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Elijah is getting really good at playing the flutophone. He knows A and B and what the p and f in piano and forte mean. He doesn't like the loud forte...but prefers the softer piano. :)

He finished up his 2nd six weeks! YAY! We started on our children of the world theme in lesson 60.

That's all for lesson 59...see you in lesson 60!

Hookey with DADDY!

This week we were not as studious as we should be. One day we played hookey with daddy at work. :)

Here is Remy making is Sonic ring. (Sonic rings are the rings you use to get points in the nintendo ds video game.)

Here are the rings in all their glory!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

My silly boys! LOL! Those little rings could fly too! They were made with cardboard and highlighters.

And here is our Daddy...Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

He always likes it when we visit. :)

The lady at the cookie place gave them cookies. They had taco bell for dinner. We walked around a bit and looked at the hermit crabs in one of the stores.

Eli even suffered an injury. He stapled his THUMB! AHHHH! I about died!

Remy's 4th birthday party!

Sorry it took so long to post this! I just forgot! :)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This is the invitation that Remy and I made. :)

This is the dragon cake that Matthew and I made. Whew...it took forever!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Here is my *adopted* son Mikey making his dragon. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Pin the tail on the dragon! Remy loved this.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Boys will be boys!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
You can see their little dragon tails on them in this picture!

Grammy, sent a Monkey ball game! Score Grammy! LOL!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

He also loved the card and MONEY from Grammy and Grampy!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Renee gave him a CUTE dragon.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And mommy and daddy and Eli gave him his dragon so he can be a real live dragon rider! :)

I hope you enjoyed the little peek into our day! :)

Lesson 56

Hello Everyone! We hope your Thursday was a cozy as ours. :)

Highlights of the day:
Remy and I mostly just spent time together while Eli did all of his seatwork. And then we went out to run errands. I needed to pick up some quinoa at the health food store, since the groceries decided to stop carrying it. And then we went and mailed daddy's packets out, and picked up 2 white carnations. Afterwards we shared a tofu meal at the chinese place in the mall. All three of us sat around a huge serving of rice, tofu and veggies. YUMMY!

When we were done we walked around a bit and looked at the hermit crabs. The kids just love these critters. :) But they have 5 fish, a sucker fish and an aquatic african frog right now. Maybe one day when we move and have more space in our schoolroom. I hear that you need two as they get lonely.

At home Elijah and I finished up his lessons. We were ready to get to the science project. We are looking at the stems and water distrubution of the plant in this experiment. And there is a lovely surprise at the end...colored flowers! :) The couple at the flower shop just loved that he was doing this. The man joked with him and said that when his flower was striped instead of fully colored that he could not return it. I love it! Anyway, here are the pictures!

Field Trip to museum of natural science!

Oh we had such a great time today! I was off today and so was daddy! Yay! And, I was not on call for a mama. We decided to take a little drive. We were all getting a little stir crazy. And we just had the urge to go! So, last night Matthew and I researched cheap day trips that we could take with the kids. It was either hunt for snow, if there was snow. Or go somewhere educational.

The National Museum of Natural Science in Jackson, MS. {http://www.mdwfp.com/museum/} was just was we needed! The website did not do it credit! It was GREAT! I would suggest anyone to go if they had the chance. It is $3 dollars for children over three, and $5 dollars for each adult. It takes about 2 1/2 hours to really look and get into everything they have.

The first thing that catches your eyes is the huge toothed whale skeleton hanging from the ceiling!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Eli and Remy just LOVED it! They marveled over how long the tail bone was. And just how BIG it was. Eli wanted to know why the ribs were just in one place. I told him it is because all of his organs were right there. So the rib bones are just there to protect them.

Remy really like this model of a lion skull. He played with the teeth. I just love his little hand, the way it looks in the picture.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

There was this cute frog statue as they entered the aquarium. They just had to have a picture of it...sitting on it of course. I am sure it was against the rules. But, shhhhh...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
They are just each posed in such a way that is just uniquely them. *sigh* Oh how I love them!

Here they are look one of the aquariums.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Now this is a little eel I think of some kind. There wasn't anything that said what it was. But while Remy was watching the little creature just opened his little mouth as if to say HELLO! The kids just squealed. I consider it a gift from God to them. God loves to give us those moments. And it was a great one for the boys. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Eli studed about Beavers this year. And I was just thrilled to see a display about them! Look how neat!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We looked over and Remy was laying on the board and waving and conversing with this one fish. It was just too sweet. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

You might have to look closely, but this snake has 2 heads. He is not alive though. I was so happy that it was there. Eli has been really curious about when things are not "normal" in nature. So this was a treat for him.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Okay, now first look at how massive this "blue" catfish is. He is actually white. But he is HUGE! We loved him. The second picture is a close up of his face. Remember, compare him to Remy!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

This last picture the boys are looking at the alligator. You can see his tail if you look closely between the boys.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Now tomorrow we will do the worksheets and stuff they have for the kids to do on their site.

Lesson 55

Okay...I had written up a whole post around 5pm today...and explorer decided to just blink out. Very strange, and of course aggrivating! URGH!

The smartest boys in the world had a wonderful day of studies. And they feel that with just a little more time they will know the secrets of the universe...and with that will come the power to make a national day of candy eating, gameboy playing, and of course the national day of wearing shoes with a wheel in the heel. Hee hee!

Highlights of the day:
Remy was still on the letter L today. And the number of the day was 11. He counted the 11 cherry blossoms and then finger painted them with a pretty pink paint. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
He loves to use his hands to paint. And we love that he loves it. :)

We talked about the ark today and he colored a rainbow, glued cottom for fluffy clouds, and pasted the ark on the page. He found the whole idea of a great flood just incredible! :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
On the paper was a little poem.

Rainbow
by: Laurel Hicks

A rainbow! A rainbow!
Shining up above.
Remember the rainbow
it says that God is love.

A rainbow! A rainbow!
Arching o'er the wood.
Remember the rainbow
It says that God is good.

A rainbow! A rainbow!
With lovely colors bright.
Remember the rainbow
It says that God is light.

A rainbow! A rainbow!
Shining cool and clear.
Remember the rainbow
It says that God is near.

So sweet!!!!!

For fun today he made a little paper craft. It is space themed and when you blow it, it spins.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Eli and Remy had a fun day in science. They are looking forward to doing an experiment with white carnations...now to find them. I did find a worm kit on Rainbow Resource for the worm experiment we never did. I just am NOT in a hurry to do that one. YUCKY! I guess as long as we aren't cutting worms open I can deal with it!

We read some riddles today and Eli loved it! Thinking that a riddle book would be a great present for him whenever I feel the need to treat him. :) Maybe Valentine's?

The rest was just normal stuff. Nothing exciting. It was just a Monday kind of day for us. :) Hope you enjoyed this blog. I had so much more on the first one...but after it wiped out...I said forget it! LOL!

Lesson 54

Remy decided to rejoin us!!!! He had been begging for school...but with all the stuff on my plate I was not up to it. It is so hard to school more than one. It really is. It is scary to think of how it will be with him at 1st and beyond with Eli as well. And then what if we have three kids? Or four? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

The little smartie pants were up to full power today. And they think they had a great practice run before they start back on the path of total world domination....hee hee hee....

Highlights of the day:
Remy was surprising today. Nothing stumped him. He just seemed smarter. I wonder if that long break resulted in him maturing a bit more and if he muddled over what he had learned. We did the letter L today. I held it up he said "L". I asked him what it said and he said it. I am sooo proud! He traced the big and little L's and then I look over and he is pretending to write his name!Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I say...well do you really want to know how to write your name? He says yes. I write it on the board and he does this!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I was so PROUD!!!!!

He made this walrus and named him George.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Everything is named George lately...he glued the little tusks on him using toothpicks. He loves to use glue.

We then reviewed counting to 10 with a basket and cookie craft we made. Here he is cutting out the cookies and then putting them in the basket.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
This was a lot of fun for us. He loves to use his hands when he learns. I think I will leave it out and revisit his 10 cookie count here and there. :)

Then he colored a traffic light and we talked about it's functions and how it helps us. He is getting good at staying in the lines! It is surprising how much he loves to color as Eli never has cared for it...and we skip all things having to do with coloring...
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

For fun today he made a dino finger puppet. Which was really fitting considering he just had a dragon party on the 13th. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Eli had art today and loved it. He takes forever when he makes something. He wants it to be just perfect. This lesson focused on highlighting and smudging. He made an owl puppet.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

He praticed his flutophone while I made dinner. He acts so growny and special. LOL! Today was spelling test day and he only missed 2. When asked what 5 things he is thankful for he named; food, friends, pets, mom, dad. And in that order. LOL! Oh he cracks me up! He is so silly and sweet...what a mixture!

Well, that is all for today...but the two smartest boys in the world shall return...mu-wa-wa-wa!
