Remy Grads Preschool / Lesson 1 Kindergarten

I wanted to share a few moments from Remy's last preschool work. *sigh* He and I had a great year. We learned so much. He has a mind you wouldn't believe...it is beautiful. His love of learning is precious and I hope to cultivate this love all his life with me. I have been thinking back on his birth often lately. I remember him coming from my body and the way he felt in my arms in that fluffy red towel. He just looked around with a wisdom even then, he owned the world and the world was his. I consider him a true prince turning into a king everyday. I know the world will be better because of him.

He gives the best hugs and he always has a way of making me feel better and bigger than I really am. :) Thankyou Remy for sharing your life with us. We love you and look forward to your kindergarten year.

Remy was supposed to go into K4, but it would have been more of the same. He needs to keep learning not redoing all the stuff he already knows. I love homeschooling. Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading about our sweet 4 year olds adventure in Kindergarten. :)

Math was one of his favorites. So we will share his last sheet of the year. :)

He ended up doing something wonderfully new. Another thing that made my heart soar! He decided to write his name in cursive. He did this all on his own. :)

Our last art project was this king hat...how fitting.

His first day of Kindergarten was GREAT! I loved it, he loved it, we can't wait for tomorrow. :) Today's letter was Ii. I can already see how much he has learned in just one year of preschool. It was a great start and he is so ready for his new work.

He had a coloring page and he did it in his regular rainbow fashion.

Eli studied his spelling list and spent time with his dad. Remy just had to do his first day of K. LOL! Eli did draw this cute sonic!

I will see you all tomorrow...we will be back in school!

Sabrina & Mikey visit / FROG visit

We have taken a huge break! First it was just for Sabrina and Mikey's visit and then we all had a horrible sickie time. UCK!

Sabrina and Mikey came to visit and we so enjoyed our time together. They were here for so long and we loved it. Our days were spent doing stuff to get ready for Mikey and Julia's bday party. We made the cutest decorations and I am sewing little bears LIKE CRAZY!

Here is an updated picture of Mikey!

He has gotten so big! I just love to hold him and kiss his squishy cheeks. I adore you Mikey Pooey BEAR!

While Sabrina was here Remy cuddled and fell asleep. He was already starting to feel bad. :(

One of those days we had a visitor of another sorts. He was a blast! He was kinda green and slimy but we enjoyed his company none the less.

We found him out back. I just love it when little creatures come to visit us for a short spell. :) I also love that Matthew and I allow the kids to entertain them as well. :)

Lesson 67

It was another big week at the laboratory *cough* I mean boys schoolroom. Lots was accomplished and we are very pleased with what we learned. :)

Highlights of the day:

Remy was again trying to do all of his worksheets. I gave in and let him do 2 each of math and phonics/writing. It still wasn't enough. Although I do have great news to report. Matthew and I have decided on the kinder curriculum for him and will be purchasing that very soon. The k4 was just too much of what we have done already. I have been thinking and praying and looking for over 2 months now at what we would do. Matthew and I looked at samples of work from each book in k4 and k5 and decided that k4 would be boring and wouldn't challenge him. So, we plan on taking k5 nice and slow if need be, since he is skipping a year. What to do with a genious little boy? He drives me crazy with how much schooling he needs. But I am not complaining. As long as he as this drive we will go with it and continue on at his pace. Even in 3 year old preschool we would have a week here a few day there that he wanted to watch tv or play with a toy. So we would back off and allow that. He always comes back though. And this last time was more than ever. We have seen BIG changes in his desire to learn, which has always been high, and his stamina for the work. We just can't give him enough. So...in a few weeks...our baby will be a real schooler by all accounts. He will be a kindergartner! Ahhhh! I want to cry!

In math today he counted to 13 with the apples on this tree. We talked about how there are flowers on apple trees and in the fall those flowers turn to apples. :)

The letter S was the letter of the day and he loves how the S sounds like a snake. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Isn't his hand so cute writing? I love it!

He made this narwhal today in art. He attached a toothpick to the head and painted black spots on his belly. :)

For science today the boys studied Friction and Air.

They felt the air in the balloon, we talked about how the air took the shape of the balloon and what we felt as the air went out of the balloon. Matthew took it a step further and showed how much air was in his lungs when he took a deep breath. :) Gotta love when daddy gets in on the lessons. The last picture is Remy saying oops he lost his balloon. Hee hee...

We read a book from the magic school bus series about archaeology. And Eli wrote down 5 things that happened in the story. He is so good at writing down his thoughts now. It is amazing!

He had a math test, which he loves, phonics, language, and writing. We studied his new spelling list for the test tomorrow and he knew them all. It was the first time we have looked at it. He floors me. I know that his strong phonics background is the reason he is so good at writing. He is an amazing young man. I love you son! :)

We plan on doing school tomorrow. And we have a Mardi Gras parade to go to. I will try to blog it! :)

Lesson 66

We are back from our weekly trip to Shreveport! :) We were so happy to be back into school.

Highlights of the day:

The kids made out their valentine cards today. Remy was so into it. And he loved copying every ones names. If your one of the lucky ones you will have one in the mail soon! Let us know if you got one. :)

You can also see the boys new haircuts in those pictures...although I know Grammy is rolling her eyes and thinking...What haircuts? Laugh!

We didn't to anything else really exciting today because we made out V cards for almost 3 hours. I was so ready to be done!

But Remy liked learning about Quails and he has this headband he made. He is really into coloring everything like a rainbow lately. Silly boy. I wonder why? I can't wait to have a house that is ours not rented so we can order quail eggs and hatch them and raise them. I can't wait! God please make that happen soon. :)

We will see you tomorrow...

Lesson 65

BIG DAY!!!!

Highlights of the day:

Remy
Remy is READING! He read bug, man, cat!!!!! He just got it! He is 4 years old! I knew it would be soon...but I thought it would be like 6 months or so! Not days! LOL! I am super excited. I asked him why is mommy teaching you the sounds the letters make to which he replied so they can make words!!!! He gets it! Oh my gosh! He is starting to read! I want to jump and dance! I want to shout it from the rooftops! My sweet little homebirthed baby is reading! I think that 2 1/2 years of nursing has paid off! LOL! AHHHHHHH! I am looking forward to finishing up 3 year old preschool and getting on with the k4 or kinder. Matthew and I are seriously thinking kinder! Ha ha, my baby is reading! Now...we need a new baby! Hee hee...

He did 3 math worksheets today and 4 writing and phonics sheets. I will need to order more curriculum soon! He just loves to work. Where does that desire come from? He stayed up till 8 last night doing copy work and art that he BEGGED for. When he was done he just let out a sigh...like okay I have gotten all that energy out! Laugh!

Elijah
Eli had a full day. He did all of his core subjects. In language today he read about Moses as a baby and answered the questions in complete sentences. He is working on a new spelling list as well.

In science we did an experiment. We have been studying different sources of energy. And todays focus was on water and wind energy.

Lesson 64

It's Monday...and we find the little scholars hard a work in the "schoolroom". Let's see how they fared today concerning world domination...hee hee hee... *cough*

Highlights of the day:

REMY
Remy was once again a student with a mission. He once again did 4 writing sheets, 4 math sheets. He FINISHED one of his art books. The last sheet said, "Amber lamb and Button bear are going to kindergarten." He got really excited when he realized he had finished a book! His first finished school book. And he thought I would order his k4 or kinder today...and we could start it tomorrow. Matthew and I need to really look into what we want to order. He loves to do copy work and he loves to really dig in and do ALOT of work. I have to tell him no, we are done each school day. And he walks around lost unless we are doing school. He is a strange child when I compare him to his peers. I love how he throws himself into his work and enjoys it. I look forward to his future. My passionate little boy!

Elijah
Eli was a super artistic boy today. He had his 13th flutophone lesson and now knows how to play the A, B, and G. His breath control is getting much better and I can really see and hear the difference. His enjoyment of it is just so fun...it rubs off on me. Even if I feel crazy teaching it. *AHHHHHH*

He had art today as well. He was to draw a peacock with basic shapes and work with directional coloring.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
As he was creating this masterpiece Remy decided he needed to do more school and proceeded to grab a paper. He hands me the paper and I am shocked!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
It is GREAT! It is a peacock. He had only viewed the directions for a few seconds and created this without looking again. But let's look at his peacock. It is standing on the ground...but there are red circles underneath. I ask what it is....it is lava...duh! Like every peacock stands on a patch of earth with lava underneath it. I just love it!

We have started a new history program. Story of the World ROCKS, Man! We started it last night and continued on today. tomorrow we will read some extra books relating the the topic of history and archaeology. And we will also start our own family tree books. So if your family...be READY for a phone call from the boys. They need your help!

Well, that is all for today. We look forward to seeing you tomorrow. :)

Lesson 62

So...after a long and exciting week of helping a mother have her sweet first baby girl at home in the water, and dealing with all the after stuff such as checkups and nursing issues, we got very little done in our homeschool this week. But it is all worth it, and we go year round if need be. And a day in our homeschool is as good as like a month or so at public. Hee hee!

Hightlights of the day:
Remy was amazing today. He was on a roll! He did 4 math sheets and 4 writing sheets. He was amazing during his phonics lesson too. He now knows the sounds of short a, e, i, o, u and b & c! What a smart boy! I am soooo proud. I wish I would have started with Eli sooner than I did. I just did not know that little guys could do so very much!

Remy cut out and pasted his spool donkey all by himself!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

And he again was able to use his favorite craft item after paper plates...cotton balls! I am no officially out of them. Laugh!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The other day I gave them Valentine's day pencils with "chocolate" bunny erasers.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
They love using special school stuff during the holidays.

Elijah and I are finally studying a little about Thanksgiving and Pilgrims. *hiding in shame* I was talking to my midwifery teacher and she said that their homeschool was the same way and now she didn't feel so bad! Laugh! Hey...who says the pilgrims have to wait until T day. NO ME! He made a craft of a little pilgrim boy at the end of the day. And read more about how the Mayflower would have been build and made ready for a trip. And what the pilgrims went through. Very fun stuff.

his favorite reading assignment today was this little bit of sweetness:
Only One Mother
Hundreds of stars in the pretty sky
Hundreds of shells on the shore together;
Hundreds of birds that go singing by;
Hundreds of bees in the sunny weather;
Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn;
Hundreds of lambs in the purple clover;
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn
But only one mother the wide world over.

*SIGH* The way he read and looked as he read that last line...priceless!

Science today was about gravity and force. We need to buy a few things for some backed up projects we haven't gotten to. So we should have some fun things to show next week. He only has 7 days left of his abeka science and then we will be picking up where we left off on his supplemental science. I can't wait until the abeka science is longer than a semester.

He made a perfect 100 on his math test today. Like who doesn't know that this is his FAVORITE subject? If you don't know then your head was stuck in the ground. :)

The last activity of the day was something they have both looked forward to. They made the doggies little doggie cakes.

The dogs LOVED them! I mean I thought they would kill the kids or me for just one more. Crazy girls. Here is the recipe if you would like your kids to make them. Just be warned that they smell like garlic and they are not like cake in the least! We used veggie bouillion instead of chicken and made 16 cupcakes. Your puppy will love you!

Chicken Garlic Birthday Cake
- 1 chicken bouillon cube
- 1 cup Whole-wheat flour
- 2 cups Wheat germ
- 1/2 cup Cornmeal
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 cup Vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon Minced garlic
- 2 cups water
vegetable oil spray -- Garlic Flavor

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Dissolve bouillon cube in warm water. Combine flour, wheat germ, cornmeal, eggs, oil, garlic and water. Spray two cake pans with garlic-flavored oil, and sprinkle with flour. Bake 50 minutes. After removing cake from oven, turn upside down and let cool.

MAKES two small cakes

We may see you all tomorrow since we need to put in some more school time after such a relaxed week...have a great weekend!
