Caterpillar Metamorphosis and a Hail Storm!

I did promise a look at our Painted Lady Butterfly Caterpillars. This is what they look like.

But they did start to change and make a chrysalis and here is what they do, they hang upside down and become sort of tranced like. The desire to eat is gone and the wiggle and jerk their curled up fronts to begin the process of shedding that furry skin.

The night I saw that it was about to happen I left out a biology book with it opened to the page of the metamorphosis. Remy found the book in the morning and spied the changling! Hee hee...

We also had a hail storm and boy was it something else!

Oooh I can't wait to see the butterflies! How cool. Wow! A hail storm. Melanie is learning about different kinds of precipitation in science and I had to show her the photo. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, Painted Lady's are so pretty! I found one with an injured wing last summer and kept it for the rest of its lifespan since they don't recover from injuries. :-)

Cool looking caterpillars. And we had some pretty good sized hail over the weekend too, but that is just huge! Stay inside when that comes down.
