Eli's First Day of Third Grade

So...that box did come in the mail at 10:27 a.m., and we didn't waste any time!

First I can't say enough about this years stuff! Every sheet (the 3 he has a day) is short and to the point. Now when he reads it is for his learning...not to just read so he can learn to read. Eli is loving it all! I tell ya I KNEW he was past the stuff he just completed towards the end. He is now an avid reader who needs NO help EVER. And the way Abeka introduced and then applied his reading was awesome. He was just a good reader very quick.

So now we move on to reading to learn and leave behind learning to read.
*Big Smiles*

It took us about 2 hours to get through the first day. He was so animated about the materials and felt very led to share his thoughts and ideas. This is great for the deep thinker he is. I know that at the end of this year that the last bit of babyness in him will have flitted away. He will always be my baby, but I know that he sounds growny already, I can't imagine what will happen in another 170 lessons.

Eli and Remy did Math together today. :) That is some cute stuff, let me tell you!

Can you tell how excited Eli was to start! He has the biggest MOUTH! *laugh*

If you look close at Remy's photo you can see his stuffed kitty. He said she wanted to have math today too. And then she read a book. I love my bitty boy!

Here is Eli with his long awaited first reader of the new year. He has been dying to get it. I have read of other children being bored with abeka's readers...not the case here. Maybe my kids are just more old fashioned and gentle? I just heard a private school teacher remark about it once.

Remy made this maze for his Pet Shop animals today.

And here he is with his Indian Jones Cache he has been putting together.

At one point he took them and was making groups. He says, "Mommy LOOK"! I then look and he says, "2, 4, 6. I have 3 groups of 2."

Matthew and I were FLOORED! He was doing multiplication? What the hey?

Guess that is what happens when I child has no fear of learning and learning is something fun they do on their own? I think so!

Oh and then later on Matt gave the boys some coins. And I catch Remy counting 5, 10, 15 .... he was counting starting with the biggest coin which was nickels. I have never even shown him counting by fives!

I think that brain of his is working over time!

Now here is a new video of Dakota the amazing tapping bird and Remy the tapping song leader! *Hee hee*

Oh Chelita I am so happy that you have gotten your box! I know how long you have waited for it. I was hoping that I wouldn't have to hear about you throwing yourself on the floor and kicking and screaming. *wink*

I will agree with you on the Abeka readers. We love them here. All of the ones that my oldest has used will be passed to my younger girls. I think that the stories teach the children such valuable lessons. Lindsay is still reading her Kindergarten Readers through the summer. She can't get enough of them. I just placed an order on the First Grade Readers. Well, I made a bid on them on e-bay. Cross your fingers.

Those boys of yours are just something else when it comes to learning. Great job on everyone's part!

*giggles* Remy and Dakota crack me up! Great show guys!

Oh the first grade readers are SO much better than the K ones. You and your little one are in for a treat! :) We loved them after book 1 or 2. :)

Rebecca...awwwww...I am just glad we are boring you to TEARS!

Bailey is the same way with multiplying. One day he just figured it out and does it off the top of his head without me teaching a thing. I love the love of learning!

Oh, I love the block house. It reminds me of being a kid with my siblings. Who needed those plastic animal houses when we had blocks. Our mansions were so much cooler than the ones they could think up. Looks to be the same for your boys.
