School Store With Checks

Okay, so we have had a little school store for a long time, but I added in something new. I also thought I would revisit it for the new people. :)

All week the boys can earn "money" through chores, school work, and good deeds. If I feel they did something GRAND, I reward it. :)

I open the store on Friday and this Friday I gave them a check.

It went over well, don't you think?

For the bank I use a check Register from here: http://www.moneyinstructor.com/checks.asp

I like how it has an easy added line for adding before you move on to the next line.

I keep this in a special binder for each boy. On Friday when they deposited the check I wrote it in. But now before they signed those checks. :)

The bank (me) then puts in the new total and VOIDS the check. :)

Then the shopping begins. I am always adding to it. If I see something they would like I get it and add it with a price sticker to the box. :)

Elijah with his tattoo, mechanical pencil (they are crazy for these now), and a water rocket. The water rocket was tested out in the pool asap.

Remy picked out a monkey face craft, a new toothbrush and toothpaste set, and of course a new mechanical pencil.

I have varied this with real and fake money in a "till" at times to help with counting money.

What a great idea! That's a wonderful way to teach them about bank accounts while they're still young. (Though who knows how many checks they'll actually have to write! I only write 1 or 2 a month.) But balancing the account is a very important life skill.

This is so very neat. I love it! They look so happy with all of their little rewards.

They didn't write the checks, I gave them a "paycheck". :) I never write checks either.

Ok..We do a variation on this..but I am so "stealing" it come Sept.. We havn't done school store because of my extra kid..it's hard enough keeping the store stocked with my 3 never mind another kid!

Very awesome! My kids have been asking for a school store. How much do you pay for various things and how do you set the price of the items they can buy?

We did a variation of this when the girls were younger. Your post has inspired me to do it again. Do you charge what the item actually cost you or do you go higher or lower in price? I love the idea of a paycheck and even writing checks. Dave & I still write checks a lot (I HATE debit cards), and I think it's an important skill to learn. Perhaps with my olders they could even balance a checkbook. Hmmmmm.........
