Eli's Man-of-War Report

I told Eli that I wanted him to choose a marine animal to do his report on. It could be mammal or invertebrate. I really thought he would choose a dolphin or a whale...

He chose a yucky thing of course! HA HA

But, he thinks this creature is fascinating and although he could only find bits and pieces on his creature in the MANY library books he checked out and the websites he visited he learned alot.

I was shocked at how fun this was for him.

When I was a teen I took a trip to visit family in Puerto Rico and was zapped by either a tentacle from one of these or one humdinger of a jellyfish. It initially felt like being slapped on the wrist by a live wire. My cousins took me back to their house to shower off and I could feel the pain travel up one arm and down the other and then I just felt lousy all over. I also ended up with a red mark on my wrist that was there for a long time.

Interesting fact: All jellies and the Man O'War are called aguaviva in Spanish. Literally "living water."

Great job on your report! My kids had trouble finding information when they studied them too.

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

Phyllis, he did well. :) He loved digging through those books all around him on the floor. Hee hee...

Cristina, I can't even begin to imagine how that felt! YIKES! And yes, they are like "living water". I will so tell that to Eli.
