Okay...I need to start out with the spore print we made!
Isn' t that NEATO???
My childhood friend from the time I was 4 years old came to visit me this weekend. She was in need of some time away from the mighty pressures of wifehood and motherhood. I was extremely blessed to be the place to chose to come to. :) I love you HEATHER!!!
We went geocaching in a small town about 30 minutes away.
We also came home to swim, but the baby in her belly made the water pressure feel strange. Hee hee...
That night we went to see Hancock. I loved the time to be right there with her with NO CHILDREN! :)
After she left on Sunday we went to Vicksburg, MS. What for? GEOCACHING!!! *laugh*
Word to the wise...do not attempt to find your coordinates on the site on a Sunday. It will NOT happen! I almost lost my mind waiting on that site to load. UGH! Heather can tell you all how crazy it was!
We got to Vicksburg late in the day because of it. But on the way we bought some figs! YUM-O! They are Remy's favorite food.
In this photo I am waiting for him to blow a bubble. I never did catch the bubbles but I did get what we call his secret smile. :)
We have to say that Vicksburg was a NEAT place to geocache! And old town with lots of charm and a deep old feeling that only a place so rich in history can give you. Matthew and I fell in love with this place.
Here is the first cache.
Remy found it!
We went to another one. And. We didn't find it. We will be back one day!
It was a micro cache that we should have been able to find. I went to the site and it looks like others are saying it is gone? Oops!
In Vicksburg they have this HUGE 16 mile loop drive through National Military Park where the main battlefield was. There were many statues. Just a pretty place. And VERY NEAT for a cache!
We saw a wild turkey while there!
They have the U.S.S Cairo preserved and a museum that was closed on a Sunday. Loved that old ship!
On the way to the next cache we snapped some photos...
Here is the Grand MS. river!
The next cache is an old church that took only $925 dollars to build in it's time. I know folks who pay that in gas per month! YIKES!
We didn't get to open this one...
Because a huge snake that looked like a boa constrictor was in the WAY! We will have to find it another day! I know I walked right by him. And Eli almost did as well to get to the cache! We are all very careful to look and be aware. This huge guy was as still as could be while he waited on those four big animals to leave his domain. Sorry big guy! Thanks for not striking at us!
Anyone know what this is? He has a light brownish red stripe down his back. Matthew thinks everything is a rattler...hee hee...cause he lived in Texas as a child. But this guy never made a sound! We would love to know and I am tired of searching!

Looks like a great time! It is so nice to get away with friends sometimes. I love my kiddos, but it is nice just to have a grownup conversation every once in awhile.
My hubby found this link on MS. snakes. Oh Chelita I got the chills when I saw this. I am hoping that this was not the snake you came upon, but it sure does look like it. Check this link out on the Canebrake Rattlesnake, Timber Rattlesnake. Thank God no one was bitten by this thing.

That is VERY close to it, Rhonda!
Thankyou LORD for the protection!
WOW, I'm semi new to caching and fortunately have not run across anything that scary. Makes me shiver. Thank you for sharing your pictures and stories..
YAY! I loved it :) I miss you guys soooo much already but hopefully we can plan another trip in the NEAR future. I love the "secret smile" picture of Remy :) so sweet :) and WHOA! what I would've done if I would have seen that snake on the day before!! omgoodness! so happy to be included on your blog, maybe next time we will have all the kids in on the fun! bye for now :)
haha ! I just showed Desiree the pics and she said look its Remy! and she is "Pretty Pleasing" me to go with me next time! :}
I am STILL confused about the geocaching!!
Heather, that snake didn't even move...he did not want us to know he was there!
I have been thinking and he just didn't look squatty or thick like a rattler does...he really looked more python like to me. He was all layed out too! Every snake I have seen while caching has been coiled up, ready for attack. This guy just felt different. So strange.
Laura, I am going to give you a geocaching lesson soon. :)
Good! I need one!
Oh My goodness SNAKE. Well, I am not sure what kind it is as I try to NOT see snakes, ever, but from growing up near my dad who killed every rattler, cottonmouth, and the like he could find, all I can say for sure is that it is a pit viper of some sort - meaning poison. I am thinking that is its head (right???) hard to see on the rock in the pic. But if that is the head, the way the "jaws" area bulges out and then tapers back in means it is a pit viper. YUCK.
You have so many fun adventures (okay, minus mr snake) and so many friends who come to visit. I just love reading about all the fun you have!
That pic of Remy with his "secret smile" is just too precious!
OH MY!! That thing is huge!! I've never seen a snake that big in the wild! And I hope I never do! lol :)
We're going to have to look into this geocaching thing.
Just discovered your blog and cannot believe how big that snake was. Looks lot like a python. Wonder if someone's pet got loose. We LOVE geocaching but not sure about coming upon snakes ready to strike. Haven't had that experience and hope to never have it. Might discourage our families love of geocaching:) Thanks for sharing!
