Lesson 28

Highlights of the day:
Remy did some writing work. I wrote one and he would trace. He tried to make an A by himself. But he got upset because it was as good as mine. *sigh* He is so sweet and tries so hard. But I hate that his best is not good enough to him. :( It makes me sad.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We worked on the letter Ii a little and then we started making some paper rings. He is not finished with those yet. So you will have to wait to see them. :) I know it's just killing you! Mu-Wa-WA!

He and I sang "Mary had a little lamb a MILLION times! *sigh* And he made a fluffly lamb of his very own. I have to say that he loves glueing cotton balls onto paper. Is that strange? It is his craft material of choice. Not sure why though.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Eli had a great day. Music class was good and he learned about notes that skip and notes that are next door neighbers. One more lesson and he will start to PLAY his flutophone! I am so excited for him! :) He is really looking forward to it. And he has worked so hard and learned so much to get to this point. It is just too much fun! :)

He had a phonics test and did really well on that. I think the oi and oy rules are securely in his head. Although I am wondering how he will do on his spelling test. He wasn't "on" today when we practiced them. Hmmm...

Well that is all for now! :)

Lesson 27

It was a rainy and cold day here in our schoolroom. Gloomy and the perfect day for indoor schooling. :)

Highlights of the day:
The biggest news of the day was that REMY came back to school today! YAY! *lots of cheers* He just came in here and asked for his schoolwork. I quickly put him to work. LOL!

He made a monkey puppet today:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
He named his Monkey puppet George of course. :)

He also had a good time coloring today. This kid loves to color...his brother does not. Funny to me just how different they are. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Elijah had a math test today and it was a breeze. :) In language today he wrote the best sentences! Complete thoughts and punctuated just right.
1. The tree is very tall.
2. Butterflies are insects.
3. Sunflowers need as much sun as they can get.
Now granted, he could have written that last one more simply...but it is sooo cute! :) Oh and while he was writing I just had to snap this photo of his sweet hand! Isn't it cute?
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Today we really looked at the rules of how to use the oi and oy. And I think he has it down!

He has one more day to recite is poem he has been learning called "The Lamb". When we are done with the lessons for it I will post it here. :) It is very sweet.

In science we talked about protein and how we need to take in more of it everyday for strong muscles. We talked about how people who live in harsh cold climates get enough fats and nutrients to live. And he wasn't too thrilled about eating whale blubber like the Eskimos! LOL! I can't blame him! Eek!

He finished his first reader of the year and will move on to the new one in a few days. :) Today's reading was about the America Flag and what the colors and everything mean. He finds that sort of thing very interesting. :)

Well, I am tired and my bed is calling my name. But I leave you with some sweet night time pictures.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Eli is really into his cd walman. He fell asleep the other night listening to his christian tunes. :)

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Remy's good friend Atley is wearing these pj's for halloween. But Remy had to have a pair. And after much discussion about the reason why we found out that he wanted them because of all the stuff he learned in science when we studied the body. :) So, the pj's were bought and he adores them and begs for them to always be clean. It is freaky though because the bones glow! Ahhhh!

Goodnight to all! God bless!

Lesson 26

Highlights of the day:

Remy once again did not ask to do school...so it was just me and Elijah.

Science was good for him today. His book had him looking at our foods to see what kinds of sugars they contained. And it was really neat for him because foods that he wouldn't have thought of contained some form of those sugars. We talked about the different types of sugars and where they come from.

Tomorrow we will be MIA due to our weekly trip to Shreveport. But Wednesday we will be back...

Lesson 25

It is the end of the week here at our little school. :) We may decide to do a lesson tomorrow since daddy has to work. But my guess is that we will just hang out, sew a costume, and go with Brina and the Mikey baby to the stores. :) My boys love their Mikey baby! :)

Hightlights of the day:
Remy was too tired for school....

Eli started studying his 4th spelling list of the year:
fry
frost
free
tree
treat
trust
brush
brave
cross
creek
dry
drop
dress
press
print
prize
grass
grape
from
of
He had a little trouble with the ea in treat. He wanted to put two ee's and the words dress and press he wanted to only put one s at the end. So, we will go over this list a few times before the test.

Today we worked on root words and adding a suffix. He really thinks it is neat to make a new word like that. :)

He read a really cute poem on his first day of abeka science.
Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
God made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
The goodness of the Father,
Who doeth all things well.

The cold winds in the winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.

Yes, all things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
And all things wise and wonderful,
the Lord God made them all.
-Cecil Frances Alexander

It was such a sweet start to his favorite subject. :) We talked about how God made so many things in this world that we could never learn about them all. But we can try! :) Eli's favorite fact of the day was that at about twenty years of age we have done all of our growing. We talked about why it is so important to give our bodies what they need in those crucial 20 years. I really enjoy these neat and deep conversations we have, my sweet boy and I! To think that I could be sending him to school and NOT have these moments is enough to make me tear up! I love these moments!

The bible verse we used in Science today was:
Psalm 139:14
"I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."

Doesn't that just say it all? I mean we really could leave it at that and think on those words from our precious book for years and never tire of it. We are fearfully and wonderfully made! We are perfect in our Father's eyes! And we should praise him for our existence! I wish every child in the world could be told that they are fearfully and wonderfully made! I wish every child could know that kind of love! How different our world would be if every child grew up with the knowledge that the creator not only loves them...that he adores them and he put so much into their making. *sigh* I am so blessed to pass that on to my children. They will know! :) Amen!

Lesson 24

The super brains have been lazy lately...recovering from their attempts of world domination. LOL! Remy has shown no desire to do school work and so I am allowing him to learn from just living. And Eli and I both have been okay with just getting his stuff done in as little time as needed. But that is the beauty of homeschool. We don't follow the public schools day to day humdrum. We can get to business, finish the work, and have the rest of the day for what we want. :) I wish I would have realized that more last year. This year has just been the year where I feel confident in my teaching and I know that an hour or two of homeschool is WAY more then he would get in days of long drawn out public school. Life is good!

Highlights of today:
Eli did have art today and he sucked paint up the straw and them blew it to make designs. It was really fun and unstructured. We loved it. :)

He had his 3rd spelling test today and got them all right. Even the please and were that he had to study a bit in the beginning of the week. :)

The rest was just review and we decided to skip our supplemental science because our 2nd grade abeka science starts tomorrow! YAY! We are both excited. Last year it was just so fun and hands on. We raised tadpoles and a caterpillar who turned out to be a moth. :) We are really looking forward to this year. The book is thicker and just skimming through we are like OH and AH! LOL!

Lesson 23

Today was another short day because daddy was off from work and we wanted to just spend our time with him. :)

The highlights of the day:

Remy did not do school. He played with daddy! And tried on his new costume! I finished it today and it is sooo cute!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Eli really enjoyed his Music Theory I/flutophone lesson today. He is so smart and just remembers things SO well! It is scary how he remembers.

He had a phonics test today and he did really well. A 100! No surprise. :)

We did the basics today. So I am sorry there isn't more fun to report. We had our daddy instead. :)

Lesson 22

Today was an easy day here. The youngest mind was still feeling sickish and decided to take a break again today. Which was fine because the eldest zoomed through his work and I was able to sew up the Rooster disquise to be used on "Mission Trick or Treat".

Highlights of the Day:
Eli almost has the Lamb poem memorized. I love to hear his little voice. He reminds me of me when I was in theatre. This kid cam memorize like there is NO tomorrow! :)

His 3rd Math test was today. He made a 100 again. He did a little jig when I told him. Silly nut!

In Science we learned about invertebrates. He thought that was really cool and I am sure after he soaks it up for a bit he will strike up a great conversation out of the blue. He always does that. But it lets me know that the wheels are turning and that he thinks about what he learns after school. That just thrills me to pieces! :)

That's it for today...simple and sweet!

Friday, October 13, 2006

Lesson 21

We had a speedy day here at our homeschool today. Remy didn't want to do school. He and I are coming down with something again! I want to cry! Ahhhh! And Eli did his school in 2 hours! We started at 1:30 and ended at 3:30!

Hightlights of the day:
Eli did really good on his writing test today. Gosh he has pretty handwriting. :) I just love it! In math he got to make a graph and he really enjoyed that. Science was fitting for todays weather. We studied a little on the animals and what they do in the winter. I was shocked to know that he knew almost all of it. I asked him where he learned it all and he said the tv! LOL! Oh gosh! They are the age of TV aren't they?

The reason Eli was in such a hurry today was because we have been invited to the public school fall festival this evening. We went last year and it was so much fun! Well, we are off to get ready for the festival and for venturing into the darkside called public school! LOL! *Just kidding for our public school mamas and kids*

Lesson 20

Hightlights of the Day:

Eli has a new spelling list! :) And he only has like 1 or 2 that we need to study. One of those words is please and were. Other than that he has it down! :) Here is the list:
bless fly
blast glad
blond glass
clock globe
clap plus
class plate
club please
flag are
flat was
float were
This list has to do with bl in block, cl in clock, fl in flake, gl in glue, and pl in plane.

In science we categorized animals and that was pretty fun. With the categories and the animals we used we found that number one thing they did was lay eggs.

During activity time Eli made this flyin ninja:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Remy started a bit late and I thought he wouldn't do school at all. But he did. His favorite things of the day were his Yak and his flying bird with you pull the string apart.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

The letter J was his worksheet today and we also reviewed the Aa and Ee in phonics. He also did work with the number 9 today.

It was a simple and fun day that went really fast! I am so thankful though as I have to make costumes now! AHHHHH!

Lesson 19

It was a good day here at our little secret lab....I mean school. *nervous laugh* Everyone got to work and completed all of the lessons they had in front of them.

Highlights of the day:

Eli had his 2nd Spelling test of the 2nd grade year. And made a 100! Really not surprised. He was really excited about this spelling test for some reason. Don't really know why. He was just really eagar and happy to do it.

He also had art today. He made what is called a stuffed apple.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
The second pictures shows that it is stuffed or 3D a little better than the first. With this art project we revisited directional coloring, and dark and light contrast. It didn't really show up on the photo but the middle is lighter than the outer edges. We also ventured into 3D art with this one. And he loved it. He takes his time and just smiles when he is done with art. That part of him reminds me of Mattmos.

Today I snapped some photos of him copying his scripture verse.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
He is just so darn cute to me! And look...his writing is almost just like mine!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

We also chatted a bit about the importance of farm animals and farms. It was a very sweet conversation. And he is sooo smart! After our conversation we made up some farm animal cards and played Go Fish and Memory with them.

Remy's day was good. We reviewed the letter Ii in his worksheet and read some poetry and sang songs with hand motions. After that he made his lion mask.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
He really loved this. He is my dresser upper! LOL!

Today he was very sure about the Aa and moved on to Ee in phonics. He knew the E by sight but not the sound it made. We plan to stay on Aa and Ee as long as needed. :)

It was a sweet day full of lots of learning and time together. I LOVE HOMESCHOOLING!

Lesson 18

It is a new week...and our little genious boys are all rested up from a long weekend! So beware! They just may succeed this week! *cue scary laugh*

Highlights of the day:

Elijah had his 3rd phonics test today and of course...passed with a 100%. I love that abeka has such a firm and strong phonics curriculum. Matthew and I are just so pleased with his writing skills. He can spell and write so well. He writes better than most adults do. It is just staggering! The complete thoughts on paper is just something that makes me smile. My baby does this, is what I think over and over again.

Music theory I/flutophone was today. And he now can identify and define:
*time signatures
*double bar line
*treble clef
*bar line
*measure
He was so excited today when he found out that he was to learn these things. He just hates that he only has music once a week. But we do practice almost everyday. 6 more lessons until he starts to play his flutophone! :)

Remy had a good day. He is doing really good with his phonics and counting. He learns so easily! The two things he wanted to share on the blog today was his turtle he made with me.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
And his bee finger puppet.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting

It was a really good day and both of the boys sped through the work. I even managed to get some cleaning done today. :)

Lessons 16 &17

The little genious boys were on a roll today! Eli decided to do 2 lesson days today. So, on Monday we will start back up with Lesson 18! YAY!

Highlights of the day:

Here is a sweet picture of my Eliman doing his Language work.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Oh he is the best boy! :)

He had his 2nd Math test today and of course they were all right. *rolling my eyes*

During activity time today the boys made some cute paper toys. Eli made this little fish game.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
It was really fun and they are STILL playing with it! LOL!

Remy made these little boxing men.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
When you pull the little white tabs on each side they box. Remy loved it. He says they are really strong. :)

Eli started on animals in his regular science book today. In about one more week his abeka science will start. :) He CAN'T wait!

Remy finished up that book he has been working on. And because of it he remembers the A, E, and F and what they say! YAY!

Remy would also like to share his Turkey he made today. He picked it from his art book. I know...it isn't time for that yet. But this is Remy...
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
It is really cute, the head moves up and down and he can stand on his own. There was a lot of gobbling sounds here at our little homeschool today. :)

The little rulers are very tired and ready for their weekend break. They worked so hard this week and everyone learned alot! Now...they will pretend to be normal kids for 2 days. Shhhh...

Lesson 15

Wow...15 days since we started our new year with our heads full of plans...many master plans! MU-WA-WA-WA!!!!! The first 15 days have just flown. We look forward to our days and I have to admit I miss teaching on the days we take off. It has just been a fun year so far! We have 155 days left of this year! SOOOOO NEAT!

Highlights of the day:

Eli started his 2nd spelling list of the 2nd grade. And he knows them all already. So...we will not be studying them but once more day and that will be before the test. I tell ya, teach phonics and they can spell anything. They just need to know the rules! I would love to teach lots of kids to read. Here is his new spelling list for those that are curious:
1. be 11. that
2. we 12. then
3. go 13. thin
4. so 14. path
5. try 15. with
6. shy 16. cloth
7. she 17. clothes
8. shape 18. one
9. wish 19. two
10. fresh 20. to

This spelling list is working on:
e in me
sh in ship
o in go
th in this
y in fly
th in thick

Today he also worked on making sure that the first letter of his sentence was capitilized and that he added a . ? or !.

He says his favorite part of the day was when he made his spinning rocket:
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
When you hold the spinning rocket out behind you and RUN it spins like crazy! It was very Eliman friendly! LOL!

Remy had fun today as well. He is really serious about learning to read. He doesn't like that Eli can do something so well and he can't. So...I brought out my "Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading" and we started with the short vowel sound of Aa. So far....so good. When I used this with Eli he was reading within the month. We will have to see how Remy does. He is a lot younger than Eli is. Eli was in kinder and Remy is in 3 year old preschool still. LOL! We will just let him take the lead.

He did something neat today:
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
He glued cotton balls for the clouds, colored the umbrella, and painted rain and raindrops. He loved it! It lead into a very cute conversation.

Then he made a bird that balances on your FINGER! How cool is that? Well, let's look at the pictures. :)
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image HostingPhotobucket - Video and Image Hosting
I just love that last photo! LOL! Oh gosh he is SO yummy! :) I could EAT HIM UP! Yummy-yummy-O!

That was the day...learning to decode the human language called English, again making plans for rocket ship transportation and defying the laws of gravity with a little fun thrown in! :)

Wednesday, October 04, 2006

Lesson 14

Today the plans for world domination took a little turn. The little master minds dreamed up powerful machines to help with the grand plan!

Highlights of the day:

Eli had his first spelling test of the year and he got every single one right! YAY! He is just the biggest smarty pants in the whole world!

We talked more about the food groups. And in Art he drew a ROCKET!
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
He had such a great time doing it. If you don't know Eli has always had a love affair with drawing. Today though the art lesson taught shading and light effects! If you look at the top of the smoke to the bottom you will notice that the grey gets lighter towards the bottom. This is because he needed to show the effect of the flames on the smoke cloud. He really enjoyed this project. And Mattmos my art genious husband really enjoyed that he is learning art because it has always been such a big part of his life. :)

Remy's favorite part of his day was his Itchy the Inchworm clip.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
It should be interesting to see what he does with it after it is dry tomorrow.

That is our day...maybe next the plans for the rocket can be built! And the master plan can take place! HE-he-he!

Monday, October 02, 2006

Lesson 13

The first Monday of the spooky month found the young men at the chiro's office for an adjustment...so they could take over the work pain free and loosey goosey! Dr. Coleman made lots of "popcorn" and Eli gave him his skeleton that he put together. And Dr. Coleman hung it on the front board for EVERYONE to see. Eli just blushed! :)

We have evening classes today as we all needed some down time and rested in bed for a LONG nap and then started studies around 4pm. And had dinner between that.

Highlights of the day:

Eli read an Aesop fable about a tricky fox and a cat. And learned the value of having a plan as opposed to tricking your way through something. LOL! He says the tricky fox was NOT wise! LOL!

He has started writing the dates on his papers. *sigh* He is TOO big for me! :(

He had his 3rd flutophone class. And he knows all of his solfege pitches and where they go on the staff! But he hasn't played yet. They don't start him until lesson 10. It kind of reminds me of my apprenticeship. It isn't that you couldn't catch a baby...anyone can do that! It just takes time to soak it all in and to absorb it all before your hands will just do what they should along with using your hearts wisdom. Okay...off of birthing babies! LOL! My mind goes there often!

We played tic-tac-toe and around the world with his solfege pitches and he had a blast. He LOVES to play games in school. I need to do them more. I skip them a lot because he just knows his stuff. And I guess I think of games as a way to learn if you are having trouble. But he just loves to play. So I am going to try and do that more. :)

In science Eli worked on nutrition. And made a list of the foods he ate for lunch in the food groups they belong in. He likes to make lists. Which is just like me! :)

Remy did really well today. He remembered the F! I love it! Big smiles! :) He also colored a fire truck and made a fireman hat.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
He loved every moment of it. And INSISTED that the fire engine be blue! Whatever! Matthew says to not sweat it. When we talked about firemen and stuff he knew that they were red in real life and we talked about why and what kind of job firemen do. He wants to visit a firehouse now. I am going to see if Charlotte wants to set it up to do with her boys at the firehouse in Shreveport. That way it isn't just my boys. We will see! :)

The world is safe for the night...fire engines are still red in our world and not blue...yet! HA HA!
