Just a Berry Good Day!

After our lessons yesterday we headed to Taylor's house for a full day. A HUGE pot of soup was waiting for us and Taylor couldn't wait to show us her dog Precious and her new fur trim. :)

Precious is usually an outside doggie...but she is living it up inside with that cool summer doo!

Everyone had some sliding fun on the water slide.

Now, I must talk about Elouise for just a moment. She is one of the sweetest older women that I call friend. This chick is one GREAT Grandmother let me tell you! She can barely SEE but she gets out there and she pulls children in wagons up and down hills, and she jumps on trampolines, she is one of those sweet grandma's who make memories with those little ones to remember her by. And in this way she will never be far from them. :) Thanks for showing me how to get my butt up when I am a grandma, Elouise!!!! *Hee hee*

Blackberry picking and the nature walks that came with it was the highlight of the day!

We all stopped to admire the home this handy spider had woven for herself.

And we spotted these little guys making NEW little guys! *hee hee*

We had Mikey with us so we were slowed down a little. And we couldn't go on too deep an adventure into the woods. After the boys found a deer track (now where is plaster when you need it) Taylor came up to me and put her arm around my waist and told me that next time we wouldn't bring a baby and she wanted to climb and walk down every little trail! She proclaimed with a huge smile that nature was just everywhere! Like it had just dawned on her that there was just a whole other world going on apart from us mere mortals. The way her face glowed tickled my heart. *wink*

We got home around 11pm...it was just one of those sweet picking berries kind of day. It was long day with perfect sun and breeze, I had children all around me, and I could impart onto them just a bit of what my boys and I love to do. I left with scraps on my legs from blackberry thorns, I bled to get my treasure, I forgot about appearance, I was just me, the little girl I have never left behind. Man I love summer and the blackberries still give me as much joy as they did back then. They are there every summer. And the neat thing for a child is that they are free for the child with enough enterprise. They don't need money to get them and they are worth more because of it!

Wonderful talks of why there are thorns and such came up. And why leaves are green. What happens in fall to the green stuff in the leaves. I loved every moment.

Now get out there and give this art of picking nature's gift to your children!

Mamaclsn, my camera is not anything special. What I do is to set it on macro setting and then go in close with the camera, not the zoom. Works EVERYTIME! My hubby helps me lots with the tech stuff. Hee hee!

Awww this was a wonderful blog. What a glorious day you had. You brought back so may memories of when I was a child. After picking the blackberries and cleaning them. We would put them in the fridge for awhile to get them really cold and then my mom would take them out and sprinkle a bit of sugar on them. MMMM I can still remember the taste. My grandmother would make the best blackberry cobbler I have ever tasted. She has passed away but I was sent a MIL who makes one exactly like my grandmother use to. Isn't it great when just the little things can make you feel so wonderful. *smile*

What a great day! I remember loading up in the back of the truck as a kid and going to pick dewberries!!! We would go home and put them on milk with sugar!!!

Mmm... love the picture of the berries. We used to have strawberries and raspberries when I was young. We used to mash them up with a little sugar and put them on lemon pound cake. Oh, so good. Too bad there isn't anything around here for my kiddos to pick- unless they get to pick the veggies in my friends garden.
