Remy and his Animal Rescue.

Matthew went to the store and when he came home he had in his hand a very sad Monarch Butterfly. He had found it in the parking lot. The butterfly had been hit by a car and he thought Remy might be able to hospice the poor dear if anything...

Remy made up some sugar water and put it into a makeshift bowl. He tried to get him to eat, but he was in shock. :( How diligently my young animal man worked to save him.

That night I saw the poor dear in spasms...and I knew it was the end. Sure enough the morning dawned with Remy finding the poor creature still. He mourned his little friend and then told me that he would forever belong in his collection of bugs. Atleast he had a safe place to rest as he passed on and he wasn't on the hot pavement.

I am really in awe of Remy's attachment ot all things animal. :) He is so special to me in that way. I never saw the world like I do now.

Aww... Remy really is so sweet! :-)

I once kept an injured butterfly until it died after a good lifespan of 2 months (typical for the type of butterfly). I contacted a butterfly conservatory where they grow butterflies for the little shows that go on the road sometimes (dunno if you've ever heard of those), and they said the healthiest thing to give a butterfly is red gatorade or powerade, because sugar will sometimes crystallize in the butterfly's system. Just for future reference... :-)

Do you think he will end up as an entomologist or veterinarian? That is too sweet how he loves and cares for animals like that! I bet he would have enjoyed being with my kids yesterday while we watched a squirrel have a feast of acorns in our live oak tree in the front yard. :)
