Lesson 12

Today was a very speedy day. Mostly review...but we had fun!

Highlights of the Day:

Eli had his first math test of the year. He speed through it and made a 100 of course!

The kids and I did the hokey pokey with our body parts for review. And when we put our stomach's in and shook them all about I was the only one shaking the tummy. As my two little master minds were rolling in hysterics in the floor at ME shaking my tummy all about. *sigh* Now, we will not linger on why that was so funny...lol.

Next Eli got the ink pad out and made his fingerprints. They are so little and cute. Atleast there is still something little on his body. He is becoming a big boy. :(

Eli did all of his schoolwork in 1 1/2 hours! Remy was done in about 30 minutes. We were completely done before lunch! Can we say YAY?

Remy also wants to share his Japenese latern he made.

He can't wait to show his daddy!

Well, I am off for the day...the genious boys have a dinner day with me and their father out tonight...the master plan of world domination is put on hold! He-he-he...

Lessons 10 & 11

It was a very productive day in the master minds lab *cough* I mean schoolroom.

Highlights of the day:

Eli had his first speed drills in Math today. He loves all things of speed. And he wants to be the fastest at everything. I have to slow him down all the time. But today during Math he was able to use his speed for good! LOL! He had about 35-40 seconds to spare on his 1 minute of time.

His first spelling list of the day was also introduced today. The list consists of words that use the ck and ke rule. He got them all right the FIRST time. And he was proud that he had spelled them all quickly and with nothing else but speed. LOL! So...no studying from now to the test. Here is List 1:
1. back
2. bake
3. lick
4. like
5. bike
6. lack
7. lake
8. duck
9. pack
10. stick
11. camp
12. tents
13. bugs
14. a
15. the

In science today the boys made "Tummy Yummies". This recipe tied together the five senses and the digestion. It was a fun project and they can't wait to eat them after dinner. The recipe consists of the 3 ingredients they used when they had the 3 glasses of water and the milk powder, honey, and peanut butter. I just had to laugh when that was the recipe. LOL! Now, we know I can't eat them...I saw what PB did in the tummy! EWWWWWW!

Tummy Yummies
You will need:
*1 cup of honey
*1 cup of peanut butter
*2 cups of dry milk
*a measure cup
*mixing bowl

Lesson 9

Okay...we last left our master minds on lessons 7 & 8. Today we find them on lesson 9! It was a busy day full of lots of fun! One of the best days of school we have ever had!

Highlights of the day:

~Eli~

In ART today Eli made the cutest 3-D animals. He took his sweet time too! I thought it would never end.

He made a bunny, ladybug and a fish. I will leave it for you to figure out which is which. MU-WA-WA-WA!

He also love Science again today. And I think you will see why! We traced his body...

And color coded the things that are inside of his body. Join us for the journey. Your trip will be shorter than ours...it took FOREVER!
Here is his brain, stomach and esophagus:

We labeled each part and wrote a few facts about each one near it. We had so much darn fun with this! He is very proud of his body model and has gained lots of knowledge from the last 2 weeks. He knows more about the inner workings of his body than MOST adults! I have to be proud of that! I love teaching him!

~Remy~
Remy was really into his schoolwork as well. He started a booklet that will take a few days to complete and we will share it when we are done. He wants to share a sorting worksheet he did today.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
Although this is very babyish for his age he enjoyed it because he likes to do stuff to death. LOL! That is our Remy. He put the toothpaste in the bathroom, the lamp in the living room, the pillow in the bedroom and the sack of groceries in the kitchen. Very fun to Remy. He just loves to use paste!

During art he colored in the missing colors on his page and with a brad he made the cow jump over the MOON! :)

We didn't get to his phonics yet...sigh...but mama is TIRED and dinner needs to be made!

The boys can now continue their journey of world domination...their BRAINS are getting bigger and smarter by the day...*cue the creepy music*

Lessons 7 & 8

Today found us with our little master minds once again in the school room. Or should we say the "master minds plotting room"? Everyone was in a cheerful mood and ready to learn.
Remy did not do much but he sat in on the science, phonics, and poetry time. He is very interested in his body since Eli has been doing his little experiments this year on the human body.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY:

In Science today the boys had two hands on experiments. One was really gross. But I guess I should tell it anyway. We learned that the stomach has a job. A very important job at that. And this job is to digest or process your food into a liquid mixture.

Here is how to do the project:
*Take 3 glasses and fill them halfway with water. This is your stomach.
*In one glass add 2 TBs. of powdered milk and stir. This is your stomach churning and digesting the powder.
*In the second glass put in 2 TBS. of honey and do the same.
*And in the last glass put in 2 TBs. of peanut butter.

Now, their findings were that the powdered milk was the most easily digested. And so it would be easily digested by their stomach. The honey formed little glops and didn't want to mix all the way, but it did mix to a certain extent. The peanut butter was interesting and gross in my opinion. It did not mix up at first but it did make the water cloudy. We let it sit and came back to churn our stomach some more and it did start to break up into tiny pieces and the water was DISGUSTING! Have you ever heard the words "Do no try this at home"? Well, take my advice and don't try this at home! Now I can only think of how my stomach is eating and what it looks like in there! YUCK!

Then it was on to putting a skeleton together! Eli and Remy worked together to put each piece together and this is the skeleton:

There was one more thing one could do with bones that we all voted NO on. Putting a chicken bone in vinegar and leaving it for two weeks to make a rubber bone because all of the calcium would be gone. Since we don't eat the little chickens this was not going to happen! So, I wonder if an overly acidic body would harm the bones? Hmmmmm....

Eli also had his weekly flutophone lesson. It was his second one and he is able to remember stuff so well! He knows what these things are:
*Staff
*Treble clef
*That the staff has 5 lines and 4 spaces (like our hands).
*The solfege pitches
*And he knows where the solfege pitches are on the staff.

I was worried about teaching him the flutophone. But as with everything else...I don't teach. He just reads and understands everything. I seriously think teachers are over rated! If a child is taught to read he or she can learn and do anything without much help at all! Wow! I sure wish I could have known this in school. It would have saved me years of feeling so inadequate.

The boys were very close to their goal of world domination...it was so close they could TASTE it!

Lessons 5 & 6

*We have been sick for a while...so we are just now getting on the ball!*

Plans for world domination:
  1. Learn how muscles work.
  2. Learn how the brain works.
  3. Learn the sounds of the letters.
  4. Take over the WORLD!

The highlights of the day:

Eli made a neat project today that taught him about his muscles in his arms. He took too long pieces of cardboard, pinned them together at the elbows and taped the yarn "muscles" on the top and bottom. He then flexed and relaxed the arm to see how the muscles reacted. VERY COOL in Eliman's book!

Then he traced his hands and labeled them LEFT and RIGHT. We then did 6 experiments to see which side of his body he used first. His right hand did 5 of the things and his left 1. So he has decided with his experiment that his left side of his brain is stronger because what it controls (the right side of his body). VERY SUPER COOL INDEED!

He did start his first reader of the year. And wow the first story was really deep and sad for a 2nd grader in my opinion. The boy throws the dogs toy into the road on accident and the girl riding her bike HITS the dog, injuring his leg. They make a dash to the vet and the vet fixes him right up while the boy and his father pray. So...yea...starting out deep and dark and twisty in 2nd grade!

Those were the new things he learned as the other school work was major review! I have such a smart cookie in my Eliman!

Remy went over his letter sounds with www.starfalls.com online live books. The letter O, E, and EE was on the menu and he did sooo well! :)

World domination was not accomplished...but we are close...very...very...very...CLOSE! *scary laugh*
