They are counting loot as I type!

Now we gear up for an 11th Birthday!

A SPoooooKY Halloween Meal!

My little boys are eating as I type! It turned out so cute that I HAD to share!

I tinted the white potatoes green for grass and then I added my oven fried "tombstones" which are really tofu-nuggets with some ketchup for dipping.

The pumpkins are mashed sweet potato with sugar, cinnamin, and butter. Put a little almond sliver for the stem and some parsley for a leaf.

The ghosts are just white mashed potatoe with a little white cheese, butter, and salt. We used icing bags to pipe it all into the designs we wanted. peppercorns are the eyes.

The mac and cheese is spooky too, it is in halloween shapes, thanks to kraft.

It is just so cute...and yummy...too!

Halloween Cookies

Remy went back after everyone was done and mixed the icings to make this brownish color. Matthew said that bat was his favorite cookie.

Red Sky

Yesterday, Remy ran screaming through the house that the sky was red, EVERYWHERE!

He had been so worried it would rain the whole time he trick or treated. He proudly exclaimed,"Red sky at night, is a sailors delight! Mommy it will be nice for my trick or treating tomorrow!"

And so far...it is...

Spooky Science #6 ~ Leaping Flame

What you will need:
*matches
*candle
*candle holder.

What do you do:

We tried many different candles and nothing worked like the birthday candle. We dripped a little wax on a tin top from another candle and we stood the birthday candle up on that to secure it. Next you will want to allow the candle to burn for about a minute so that it will make alot of smoke. The birthday candle was just more smokey.

Blow the candle out gently so you do not disturb the thin trail of smoke that will come from the candle. Hold the lit match in the smoke away from the wick. The flame will travel from the match, through the smoke, and relight the candle!

Have fun!!!

Spooky Science #5 - Secret Messages

Want to make a secret message?

Well, this is how...

What do you need?

*Typing paper cut into little slips of paper
*Lemon juice, onion juice, or vinegar in a small bowl
*Candle
*Large glass bowl with water in it.
*Q-tips

What do you do?

Gather all your items together on a safe surface. We use an old art board for out messy stuff.

Photobucket

Use the Q-tips dipped in your choice of liquid, we used lemon juice, and write your secret message on the paper.

Photobucket

Now very CAREFULLY move your paper back and forth over your candle flame and watch your message appear!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

My boys loved this!

Photobucket

And be ready...

Photobucket

for FIRE! Have that large glass bowl of water HANDY! Tell them beforehand to put the burning paper in the water if it has a flame.

Photobucket

Why does it work?

When you put the invisible "ink" on your paper those areas of the paper under go a chemical change and become similar to cellophane. These areas now have a lower ignition temperature and will burn before the "uninked" higher ignition areas of the paper.

~*~*~Fall Lapbook - Part Two~*~*~

The boys are really enjoying this lapbook. I think Remy is finally to the age where they can each work together and take away something at each of their levels. It is so nice!

They each wrote a list of things that signify fall for them.

Photobucket

Photobucket

They each drew a fall picture. This one is Remy's.

Photobucket

Elijah's:

Photobucket

They made a fall tree.

Remy:

Elijah:

Photobucket

We found out when our sun rose and set today. And then we found out when fall ends.

Photobucket

We had some fall art. Remy made leaf rubbings.

Photobucket

Photobucket

He loved doing that. He made quite a big deal about it.

Photobucket

Remy also made a little Halloween kitty. He got to use the hot glue gun for this one...always a treat.

Photobucket

Elijah made the sweetest fall note cards. You just may have one in your mailbox this week! ;)

Nurse Shark - Love Bites

Remy had a nurse shark on his math paper today. We found this video of a man who likes to kiss nurse sharks. I guess this puts a new spin on the phrase "love bites". HA HA!

Spooky Science #4 - Bend Water

What do you need:

*plastic spoon

*water faucet

*sweater made of wool or fleece

What to do:

Charge the spoon by rubbing it on the sweater. Turn on the faucet with a gentle thin stream of water. Hold the spoon to the stream of water and watch it bend!

How does it work:

The electric charge attracts the uncharged water particles. Water Conducts electricity and draws the charge from the spoon. Tiny water particles in the air also take up electricity.

NOTE: I had to dry the sweater in the dryer for a few minutes to properly charge it before hand. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Carving

My boys are so big this year! They can do so much by themselves, Wahhhhh!

They each picked out a stencil online for their pumpkin's fate.

Elijah picked this goofy one. And Remy picked Sonic as his design.

Remy helped his daddy get the stencil ready for the pumpkin.

Photobucket

And the boys cleaned out the goop. Remy loved it and took over an hour, he had to do it all, and he had to get every bit out! Elijah was FINE to allow his father to do it.

Photobucket

My sweet messy boy!

Photobucket

Elijah tracing the stencil.

Photobucket

Cutting!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Elijah did all of his. Remy needed help from daddy because his was so much harder.

Remy and Daddy's Sonic pumpkin.

Photobucket

Elijah's silly pumpkin.

Photobucket

I made them homemade funnel cakes. Remy was in heaven! You can get it on Rachel Ray's website. They boys now want me to make them every year when they carve pumpkins.

Photobucket

Elijah came up with a little side project. He made the pumpkin seeds into ghosts.

Photobucket

My little actor.

Photobucket

They had so much fun this year. :)
